In this conversation, Sonia Harding — who has built a following of over 30,000 men through her lifestyle and relationship content — shares her unfiltered perspective on what she and her audience of women genuinely find attractive in men over 40. The answers might surprise you.
DR. REID: Sonia, let's start with the obvious question. Do women in their 30s and 40s actually find older men attractive?
"Not just attractive — more attractive, in many cases. The men I find most compelling aren't the youngest in the room. They're the ones who've clearly invested in themselves. There's a presence, a groundedness, that you just can't fake — and you can't have it at 25. It comes from experience, from knowing who you are."
DR. REID: What specifically signals that a man has "invested in himself"?
"It's physical, but it's not about being perfect. It's about being vital. A man who clearly takes care of his body — who has energy, who moves well, who looks like he gives a damn — that reads as confidence. And confidence is the most attractive thing there is. The physical part is almost secondary to the energy it projects."
DR. REID: What about the performance side of things? Is that something women actually think about when evaluating a potential partner?
"Absolutely, and I think men underestimate how much a man's confidence in that area affects everything else. When a man is confident in his own skin — including in intimate situations — it changes how he carries himself in every room. Women pick up on that. It's not about size or any specific thing. It's about whether he's present, whether he's confident, whether he's engaged. That's everything."
DR. REID: Any advice for men over 40 who feel like their best years are behind them?
"Stop thinking that way — immediately. The men I know who are the most attractive, the most compelling, the most magnetic? Most of them are in their 40s and 50s. They've done the work. They know themselves. They're not trying to be 25 again. They're fully themselves, and that's incredibly powerful. The men who are struggling are the ones who've given up. Don't give up."
"The men who thrive after 40 aren't the ones who accept decline. They're the ones who follow a protocol."
